Ashworth Scale

The Ashworth scale is used to measure spasticity and the effect of its treatment, as well as to measure the severity and frequency of resistance to passive movements on a five-point scale (from 0 to 4). To assess, the doctor moves the patient’s limbs in the full range of motion and subjectively assesses the muscle tone.

Habilect systems are applicable in all cases on the Scale of Ashworth, including in combination with myorelaxant injections. In some cases, it requires additional adjustment of criteria in H.Clinic to exclude spastic limbs from analysis.

Data are obtained by bending in order: elbow, wrist, fingers. Patient must be in sitting position.

0. Tone is not increased.

1. A slight increase in muscle tone, manifested in the initial tension and rapid subsequent relief.

2. A moderate increase in tone throughout the entire volume of motion, but the limb is bent or stretched quite easily.

3. Significant increase in muscle tone – passive movements are difficult.

4. The inability to fully bend or bend the paretic part of the limb.
